Prospect student wins national award

Prospect High School student and FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) participant Ashna Alex was one of only fourteen American students to win the Kikoman Soy Sauce FCCLA Exchange Program Award.

The award provides $12,000 to cover expenses related to a six-week Youth For Understanding summer exchange program in Japan.

Alex, a Prospect junior, spent almost two years preparing for the application process and the multiple required interviews.

Now that she has won the award, she will stay with a host family in Japan, attend a Japanese school, and learn about Japanese culture by attending local cultural events and festivals, participating in traditional tea ceremonies, and practicing martial arts.
