McDermott and Cwanek Crowned National Champions
The Prospect Speech Team traveled to the National Speech Tournament in Fort Lauderdale where 4000+ students qualified to compete for the National Championship in one of 13 main events. At the conclusion of the tournament, Prospect students- Molly McDermott and Kamila Cwanek were crowned national champions in Duo Interpretation- an event that began the week with 250 teams. Molly and Kamila's performance in the final round in front of more than 4000 people brought plenty of laughter and resulted in several standing ovations during and after the performance. These two become the very first Prospect and District 214 National Champions in Speech and the first students in Illinois to win a National Speech Main Event Championship in over a decade. Additionally, by being in the final round of Duo Interpretation for a 3rd time, Molly became only the 2nd person to achieve this feat in the history of this event at the National Tournament.
