Prospect Goes Solar

February 7, 2011

Prospect has gone solar! Thanks to a grant from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation, Prospect High School has installed 7 solar panels capable of producing 1.5 kW of electricity. The $10,000 grant application submitted by Associate Principal Greg Minter and Environmental Club sponsor Mollie David paid for the installation that took place in the fall of 2010. For more information about grants and projects, contact www.illinoiscleanenergy.org.

The solar arrays do more than produce energy however. They are also an amazing addition to Prospect’s lab equipment. Students and teachers can access data about energy produced by the solar arrays through the internet, learning more about energy use and conservation. Follow the link below to see for yourself how much energy the solar arrays are producing.
